Best Journey Time

November to February is the best time for a golf vacation in Laos. During these months, the cool dry season prevails with pleasant temperatures between 20 and 28°C, little rainfall and ideal conditions for relaxed golfing. From March to May, temperatures often rise to over 35 degrees Celsius, which can make golfing a little more strenuous. However, the fairways are in good shape during this time and those who are not afraid of the heat can also play golf during these months.

The rainy season with high humidity and frequent, sometimes heavy rainfall lasts from June to October. It is still possible to play golf, but it can happen that play is interrupted and the course is soaked. The dry season from November to February is therefore the ideal time to travel for the best playing conditions and a pleasant golfing experience.

Special Destinations

During a golf vacation in Laos, there are a variety of special excursion destinations with a mix of culture, nature and adventure. The old royal city of Luang Prabang is known for its magnificent temples, colonial architecture and breathtaking views of the Mekong. A visit to Wat Xieng Thong is an absolute must. It is one of the most beautiful temples in the country. The impressive Kuang Si waterfalls are around 30 km from Luang Prabang. The turquoise-blue cascades are ideal for swimming, hiking or simply relaxing in the midst of tropical nature.

There are numerous cultural sights to discover in the tranquil capital of Vientiane, such as the imposing Patuxai Monument or the Pha That Luang, the country's most important Buddhist stupa. A fascinating archaeological mystery awaits visitors in Xieng Khouang. The Plain of Clay Jars is a mystical landscape with hundreds of stone jars that are several thousand years old and whose origins are still not fully understood.

The picturesque river basin of the 4000 islands is located in the south of Laos, close to the Cambodian border. Here you can enjoy relaxing boat trips. A boat trip on the Mekong is a great way to get to know Laos from a different perspective. The route from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang is particularly popular, allowing you to discover the spectacular nature and small villages along the river.

Culinary Highlights

A golf vacation in Laos can be ideally combined with discovering the diverse Laotian cuisine. The dishes are aromatic. They are often refined with fresh herbs, lemongrass and chili. A classic dish is laap, a spicy salad of minced meat or fish, which is refined with lime juice and mint and served with toasted rice. It is usually served with sticky rice (khao niew), which is a staple food in Laos.

Another highlight is pho lao, a hearty noodle soup with beef or chicken, which is very similar to Vietnamese pho but seasoned with typical Laotian spices. Fish lovers should try mok pa: Fish is steamed in banana leaves and served with coconut milk and herbs. A stop at the market is worthwhile for grilled skewers (ping), crispy Mekong fish or exotic fruits such as mangosteen and longan. Coffee from the Bolaven Plateau or a refreshing sugar cane juice make for a sweet finish. The combination of authentic flavors and fresh ingredients makes Laotian cuisine a culinary experience - perfect after a relaxing round of golf.

Arrival & Infrastructure on Site

As there are no direct flights to Laos, the journey from Germany usually involves a stopover in Bangkok, Hanoi or Singapore. The most important airport is Wattay International Airport (VTE) in Vientiane, followed by Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ). From here, there are domestic flights to cities such as Pakse or Savannakhet.

Local infrastructure in Laos is well developed, but rather basic compared to other Asian countries. Tuk-tuks, cabs and mopeds can be hired in the cities, while minibuses and domestic flights are available for longer distances. Vientiane is connected to Luang Prabang and Boten near the Chinese border by a new high-speed railroad. If you want to travel flexibly, you can book a private chauffeur or hire a car, although it should be noted that traffic can sometimes be difficult to navigate. For golf travelers, many resorts offer a shuttle service to the golf courses. This guarantees a relaxed arrival on site.
