Best Journey Time

The best time to travel to Vietnam varies depending on the region, as the country has different climate zones.

For northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa), the months of October to April are ideal, when the weather is pleasantly cool to mild. In summer (May to August) it can be hot and rainy.

In central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue), conditions are ideal from February to August with plenty of sunshine and warm temperatures. The rainy season here falls between September and November.

The south of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc) has a tropical climate with a dry phase from November to April and a wetter period from May to October.

The months of November to April are ideal for golf trips, as the climate in the main golf regions is pleasant. Those planning a beach vacation should consider spring and summer for central and southern Vietnam in particular.

Special Destinations

Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, impresses with its limestone cliffs and emerald-green water - ideal for boat trips and kayak tours. In Sapa, the green rice terraces and mountain villages of ethnic minorities are impressive.

The coastal town of Da Nang attracts visitors with its famous Golden Bridge, while the historic old town of Hoi An enchants with its lanterns, temples and markets. The imperial city of Huế offers insights into Vietnam's imperial past.

For adventure lovers, the spectacular cave systems in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, including the largest cave in the world, are a must. The Mekong Delta fascinates with floating markets and tropical waterways.

Those seeking relaxation will find paradisiacal beaches with crystal-clear water on the islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao. The metropolises of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City offer cultural highlights, colonial architecture and vibrant city life.

Vietnam combines breathtaking nature, historical sites and pristine beaches and is a versatile destination for all tastes.

Culinary Highlights

Vietnamese cuisine is known for its fresh ingredients, aromatic herbs and perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty and spicy flavors.

A classic is the famous Pho, a hearty noodle soup with beef or chicken, which is popular throughout Vietnam as a breakfast or main meal. Also indispensable are bánh mì, crispy baguettes with meat, vegetables and spicy sauces that reflect the French colonial era.

For light, fresh delights, try goi cuon (summer rolls) filled with prawns, rice noodles and herbs, served with a spicy dipping sauce. In central Vietnam, cao lau (thick rice noodles with pork and herbs) are a regional specialty.

Seafood plays a major role, especially on the coasts of Da Nang, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, where freshly caught fish and grilled prawns are served with spicy dips.

A traditional Vietnamese coffee is a must at the end - whether as a strong Ca Phe Sua Da (iced coffee with condensed milk) or as an egg coffee with creamy egg yolk foam.

Vietnamese cuisine offers a perfect blend of lightness, freshness and intense flavors and is a true paradise for gourmets.

Arrival & Infrastructure on Site

Vietnam is well connected and has a modern infrastructure. The most important international airports are located in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Direct flights from Europe are rare, usually with a stopover in Bangkok, Doha or Dubai.

For traveling within Vietnam, domestic flights are the fastest option. Trains offer a comfortable alternative, especially on the route between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Buses are cheap but often slow. In the cities, cabs and ride-hailing apps such as Grab are widely available. Motorcycle cabs and scooters are popular means of transportation for short distances, while rental cars are uncommon.
