Golf course: Royal Hua Hin
The golf course
The Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, designed by a Scottish railroad engineer and opened in 1924, is Thailand's first golf course and a piece of living golf history. Nestled between impressive limestone cliffs and overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, the 18-hole course offers a scenic and classically British golfing experience. The fairways run over gently undulating terrain, lined with mature trees, while small, slightly elevated greens require precise play and good strategy.
The course owes its special charm to its naturalness and unforgettable moments - such as when monkeys suddenly emerge from the undergrowth and steal golf balls. There are hardly any water hazards; the challenge comes more from the terrain and the elevated position of many greens.
Although the Royal Hua Hin does not come close to the modern luxury courses in the region, it impresses with its well-kept conditions, authentic atmosphere and excellent value for money. The proximity to the city center and the nostalgic ambience take players back to the time when Thai royals and British expats played their rounds here almost a hundred years ago.
