Golf course: The Wales National Course

4.0 out of 6

The golf course

The Wales National Course at the Vale Resort in Hensol was opened in 2003 and designed by Peter Johnson. With a length of around 7,433 yards at par 73, it is one of the longest and most challenging golf courses in the UK. The terrain is typically Welsh - slightly hilly, criss-crossed by rows of old trees and designed with several water hazards.

The course combines wide fairways with narrow, strategically challenging holes. The USGA greens are large, fast and very well maintained. Particularly striking are the over 600-yard par 5 of the second hole and the 14th hole, a beautiful par 3 over water that requires precision and nerves of steel.

The course has hosted several professional tournaments, including Challenge Tour and European Senior Tour events. Thanks to its modern layout, length and variety of landscapes, the Wales National Course is considered one of the best and most spectacular courses in Wales.
