Best Journey Time
The best time to play golf in Gran Canaria is from October to May, when temperatures are pleasantly mild at between 20 and 25 °C. During these months, the courses are less crowded than in the high season and the weather remains ideal for relaxed rounds. However, thanks to the consistently mild climate, golfing is possible all year round, even in summer when the coastal breezes provide pleasant conditions.
Special Destinations
Gran Canaria offers numerous excursion destinations worth seeing in addition to golf. The dunes of Maspalomas impress with their desert-like landscape, while the old town of Las Palmas (Vegueta) delights with its historic buildings and cozy alleyways. Nature lovers should explore the Roque Nublo, an impressive rock monument in the middle of the mountains, as well as the green valley of Agaete with its coffee and vineyards. Picturesque villages such as Teror or Tejeda invite you to take a stroll, and the spectacular coastal road from Agaete to La Aldea offers breathtaking views. Those looking for relaxation will find fantastic beaches such as Playa de Amadores or the secluded bays in the south-west of the island.
Culinary Highlights
Gran Canaria offers a varied cuisine with regional specialties. Particularly popular are papas arrugadas - wrinkly salt-shrinked potatoes with a spicy mojo sauce. Fresh fish such as vieja (parrot fish) or calamares are widely available on the coast. Meat lovers enjoy carne de cabra (goat meat) or conejo en salmorejo (rabbit in a spicy marinade). Gofio, a roasted cereal flour that is used in various dishes, is also typically Canarian. For dessert, bienmesabe, a sweet almond cream, and the Canarian variety of cheeses are a delight. A glass of Vino de Gran Canaria, a local wine, is the perfect accompaniment to round off the meal.
Arrival & Infrastructure on Site
Gran Canaria is easily accessible via Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), which is served by direct flights from many international cities. The island has a well-developed road network and a rental car is the best choice for flexible access to the golf courses and sights. Alternatively, there is a reliable bus network that connects all the important places. Cabs and transport services such as Uber are widely available in the tourist areas. The island's capital Las Palmas also offers a well-functioning public transport network, while the GC-1 highway provides a fast connection between the south and north.
