Best Journey Time

The Bahamas have a mild subtropical climate with average summer temperatures of 28 °C and winter temperatures that rarely fall below 20 °C. Water temperatures range between 24 and 29 degrees Celsius thanks to the Gulf Stream. From June to November, the weather is characterized by the hurricane season and the rainy season, so the best time to visit the Gulf is from December to mid-May. April is the sunniest month of the year with an average of 9.2 hours of sunshine per day. The northern islands are slightly cooler than the rest of the archipelago, with temperatures around 4 to 5 degrees below average.

Special Destinations

The Bahamas offer numerous opportunities for golf beginners who want to gain their golf license during their vacation. Professional training is offered on over 10 different golf courses, including an exclusive course in the picturesque Winding Bay right by the sea.

In addition to golf, the Bahamas offer other unique attractions. Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island is a real insider tip: coral sand gives the fine sand an enchanting pink hue. If you are looking for adventure away from the touristy islands, you can explore remote and uninhabited islets by boat. Divers will be thrilled by the colorful underwater world with dolphins, rays and sea turtles. Those who prefer something a little more challenging can train at the shark school in Eleuthera or snorkel with nurse sharks on Exuma Beach, petting and feeding them. Swimming with the famous pigs that live freely on the islands of Exuma is also an unforgettable experience in the Bahamas!

Culinary Highlights

Seafood, hearty stews, fresh salads and exotic tropical fruits characterize the culinary picture of the Bahamas. The national dish of the Bahamas is a type of sea snail, which is known in the Bahamas as "conch" and is prepared in many different ways.

One of the most popular varieties is scorched conch, a spicy version served with salad, soup or marinated in lime juice and hot chili peppers. Another specialty is conch fritters, where the mussels are fried in a savoury batter, and cracked conch, which is also fried but chopped up beforehand. Particularly popular is the conch salad, which is as typical for the people of the Bahamas as the hamburger is for Americans. At many snack stands on the islands, this specialty is combined with onions, peppers and chilli, sometimes also with apples. Those who want to indulge in culinary delights will find first-class restaurants in the Bahamas such as Dune in Nassau, Café Martinique on Paradise Island or the exclusive Rock House on Harbour Island, which serve their guests the fine cuisine of the Caribbean.
