Best Journey Time

Between May and September, the climate in South Africa's Northern Province is pleasantly mild and dry. Temperatures during this time are between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius, which creates ideal conditions for a relaxed round of golf.

In the summer months from October to March, it can get very hot in the region. Temperatures can rise to over 30°C and it can occasionally rain heavily. This can affect the game of golf, especially in the wetter months from December to February. In contrast, the winter months from May to September are the best time to play golf, as the rainfall is low and the condition of the fairways is optimal. This is also the best time to combine golf and safari, as many wild animals are easy to spot at the waterholes in the nearby national parks.

For travelers who prefer warmer temperatures, the transition months of April and October are a good alternative, as the climate is pleasant during these months and tourist numbers are not as high. Overall, however, the dry season from May to September offers the best conditions for a successful golf vacation in South Africa's Northern Province.

Special Destinations

Exploring South Africa's impressive Northern Province is the perfect opportunity to take a break from golf training. The region with its picturesque landscape is a true paradise, especially for photographers and nature lovers.

A particular highlight is the cross-border national park, which stretches across several countries. Five national parks belong to the region. First and foremost is the largest game reserve in South Africa, Kruger National Park, also known as Greater Limpopo Park. Numerous fascinating wild animals such as lions, wildebeests, impalas, white rhinos, leopards and Nile crocodiles can be observed here.

Another worthwhile destination is the provincial capital of Polokwane, where the Polokwane Nature Reserve is located - a nature park that is ideal for hiking and wildlife watching. To immerse yourself in the history and culture of the region, the city offers a diverse museum landscape. Of particular note are the Polokwane Museum, which provides insights into local history, and the Hugh Exton Photography Museum with an impressive collection of historical photographs. These diverse excursion options make the Northern Province the perfect travel destination that uniquely combines golf, nature and culture.

Culinary Highlights

Although South African cuisine today is characterized by international influences, many traditional dishes and culinary customs are still an integral part of South African food culture. A classic example of this is boerekos, a hearty dish with lots of meat that was brought to South Africa by Boer immigrants. At this traditional barbecue, lamb, pork and beef are grilled over the fire. It is accompanied by sweet vegetables and fresh salads.

Another typical dish is potjiekos, a slow-cooked stew that is often prepared with lamb stew and lots of vegetables in a cast-iron pot over an open fire. This cooking method gives the dish a particularly intense aroma. Rooibos tea, which is highly valued for its mild, slightly sweet taste, is one of South Africa's best-known drinks and is often drunk with milk and sugar.

Malva pudding is very popular as a dessert. The creamy apricot tart is traditionally served warm and refined with vanilla sauce, which makes it irresistible. South African cuisine is varied and enjoyable thanks to the combination of savory dishes, aromatic drinks and sweet treats.

Arrival & Infrastructure on Site

The region is easily accessible via Polokwane International Airport, which offers regular flights to Johannesburg. The city also has a train station and a well-developed bus network that enables convenient intra-regional travel. However, if you want to travel with your own golf baggage, you are well advised to hire a car. This makes it possible to discover the area on your own and visit excursion destinations such as the Kruger National Park. The road network in and around Polokwane is very well developed for a relaxed drive through the region. International visitors in particular should note that left-hand traffic prevails in South Africa.
