Algarve

The Algarve is the undisputed number one golf destination in southern Portugal. The largest selection of first-class courses is concentrated here, with around 40 of the country's 90 golf courses. Many golf courses are among the best in the country and often host the European PGA Tour.

The Algarve is not only a popular destination because of its first-class golf courses, but also because of the 300 days of sunshine a year, the beautiful beach landscape, the Mediterranean cuisine and the short flight.

And the best thing is: a golf vacation in the Algarve doesn't have to be expensive. With a bit of luck, you can book a last-minute golf vacation and get a real bargain.

Special Destinations

There is a lot to discover for golfers in the Algarve, and the region has much more to offer than just first-class golf courses. If you are a lover of water sports, you can get your adrenaline pumping with kite surfing or jet skiing on the coast of Albardeira. Or simply visit the aqua park and let your mind wander.

If you want to relax after a strenuous round of golf, you should visit the Villa Termal Das Caldas thermal spa. There you can relax and recharge your batteries in traditional mud baths, thermal whirlpools or in the spacious sauna area with Turkish bath.

Culture enthusiasts and architecture lovers should definitely visit the Bone Chapel in Faro. The walls of this extraordinary chapel are made up of the bones of over 1100 monks in artistic geometric patterns - an unforgettable sight. In the Teatro Lethes, you can not only see theater and opera performances, but also the detailed wood carvings inside.

The impressive sea cave near Benagil, which can be reached by kayak, is another highlight. On the way, you have the opportunity to observe dolphins that live in this part of the Mediterranean.

Culinary Highlights

The south of Portugal is known for its Mediterranean cuisine, which focuses on fresh fish and sea vegetables. A gourmet highlight is bacalhau, dried stockfish, which is served in many variations as a Portuguese national dish.

Another culinary delight is cataplana, a Portuguese wok dish with a delicious mixture of mussels, meat and vegetables.

These and other traditional Algarve dishes can be enjoyed at the highest level in the Michelin-starred restaurants along the coast. They are accompanied by an excellent Portuguese wine, which you may have already got to know at a wine tasting in Albufeira.

Arrival & Infrastructure on Site

Air travel to the Algarve is usually by plane, with Faro Airport being the ideal choice due to its location directly in the region. For more flexibility on site, we recommend booking a rental car, as the public transport network in many cities in the Algarve is not optimal.

Alternatively, you can also travel by car. However, the distance from Hamburg to Faro is almost 2,900 kilometers, which is a journey of several days.
One advantage of this journey is that you can save the cost of a rental car and be mobile directly on site.

Traveling by train is another option. The best option is to travel to Paris first and then board the TGV, which will take you on to Spain. From there, continue to Portugal. However, you should allow two to three days for this option.
